SilveRado Jewelry

SilveRado Jewelry is a jewelery manufacturer who produces a range of quality hand crafted detailed three dimensional charms from sterling silver and 14ct gold and beads of Murano glass.

The charms are manufactured using the finest 925 silver and 14 ct gold. Only natural semi precious and precious stones are used in the jeweled pieces, except in the birthstone range where cubic zirconium are used, all the stones are hand set by qualified craftsmen, no gluing takes place anywhere in the manufacturing process.

The glass beads are manufactured using the finest murano glass. Since medieval times, Murano (a cluster of islands near Venice, Italy) has been famous world-wide for artisanal glass created by skilled Italian glassblowers.  In 1291, due to a fear of destruction from fire of the city’s mostly wood buildings, the glass-makers in Venice relocated to Murano.  The glass-makers were awarded prominence by the Venetian state and were severely penalized for betraying the secrets of the art.  This well-guarded craft has been handed down from generation to generation.  Today tourists from all over the world visit Murano in order to learn more about this highly specialized trade.

Murano bead-making begins by using Murrine (colored glass canes) composed of silica (a derivative of sand or quartz) mixed with other elements.  The production of these colored canes is a significant challenge, because the process involved in color fabrication is extremely sensitive and must be done with total accuracy.

Most Murano glass art is made by using the complex lampworking technique.  This method, invented by a Murano glass-master in the 1700′s, involves heating the glass at a high temperature with a torch until it becomes liquid.  Before the liquid glass cools and completely solidifies, it is in a semi-soft state.  At this point the delicate process of shaping the bead begins.  The Murano glass-master employs his skills as an artist/sculptor by wrapping the material around a metal rod until the ideal shape is achieved.  Several layers of different colored glass as well as gold and silver leaf are often used to produce the desired effect. After the bead is slowly cooled, it is removed from the rod which produces a hole for eventual stringing.  The end results are extraordinary glass beads decorated with swirls, stripes, flowers, polka dots, etc.

My Name is Victoria Kragthorpe and I live in Grand Rapids, MN with my husband Josh, our newborn baby girl, Ellie, and our dog, Sullivan or “Sully”.

My inspiration for “VICTORIA’S SilverWEAR” began after attending the Sculptural Objects Function Art Conference. There I saw my first spoon necklace and I was inspired! Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Art Education, I took a few jewelry classes and was hooked. I honed my skills and my inspiration turned into a unique line of Jewelry, I, call Victoria’s Silverwear. I took my necklaces and inspiration on the road to sell at Art fairs.
